Act I: You wanted to be an actor…run lights or sound for a play…move the sets…but you didn’t have the time or opportunity.

Act II: Your children are grown and on their own…your career is secure…you’re enjoying retirement… Now it’s time for YOU to fulfill that dream of being on stage or working behind the scenes.

Recognizing the limited opportunities for mature adults to pursue their interest in theatre, Robidoux Resident Theatre has developed a program for people 50+ years old with various levels of theatrical experience and interests. Acting classes/workshops, Writers Room, Script Club and other activities meet at The Ruby Theatre.

    Acting Classes for Adults 50+

    Actors will experience the foundations of performance art by “playing a part” in a fun, non-threatening way.

    Theatre games, laughter, yet attention to detail will make the classes enjoyable for not only the most self-conscious person but also the budding “ham.” Actors may choose to memorize lines or use their scripts.

    Classes will explore

    1. Warm-ups, Improvisation and Pantomime
    2. One-Act Plays and Readers Theatre
    3. Characterization and Stage Movement
    4. Technical Theatre: simple set construction, costuming, props, lighting, and sound

    Stepping into Theatre

    • Workshop for those with no to limited theatrical experience.
    • Meets Tuesdays
    • Fall 2026 – August 11 and 18, 2026
    • Spring 2027 – January 12 and 19, 2027
    • No Performance
    • Cost: $20 each semester

    Curtain Up and 2nd Act Players

    • A Class for those with limited experience and/or have taken “Stepping Into Theatre”
    • Meets Tuesdays
    • Fall 2026 – August 25-November 5, 2026 (+5 additional days tbd by the actors)
    • Performances Friday, November 6th at 7pm and Saturday November 7th at 2pm
    • Spring 2027 – January 26-May 6, 2027
    • Performances: Friday May 7th at 7pm and Saturday May 8th at 2pm
    • Scripts: Fall – Published plays; Spring – Origianl plays written by RRT’s Writer’s Room playwrights. 
    • “Curtain Up” Cost = $80 each semester
    • “2nd Act Players” Cost = $25 each semester 

    All classes meet 10 am – 11:30 pm and 5:15 pm – 6:45 pm (Choose a time best for you)

    2nd Act Writers Room

    Join other playwrights college age or older in writing plays mainly for the 2nd Act Program but also for personal development. Get and give feedback. Have your play performed. 

    • 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 10am-Noon
    • June 6th, 2026 – May 15th, 2027 (Join Anytime!)
    • Cost: $3 per session (Covers costs of copying scripts)

    2nd Act Script Club

    A “Book Club” for Writers Room writers, 2nd Act Players and anyone who enjoys reading and discussing plays and watching theatre. Table-read and discuss 1-3 scripts each semester. For anyone college age or older who enjoys theatre and reading.

    • 2nd and 4th Saturdays – 10am-Noon
    • Fall – New Classic Plays (Subject to change)
      • Registration Deadline: September 4th, 2026
      • September 12th, 26th, October 10th, 24th & Nov 14th, 2026
    • Spring – Focus on A Playwright (Subject to change)
      • Registration Deadline: February 5th, 2027
      • Feb 27th, Mar 13th, 27th, April 10th, 24th, 2027 (2nd and 3rd Saturdays in March)
    • Cost: $15-$40 each semester (based on script prices) Pre-Registration is required.
